SHELTER FOR URBAN HOMELESS -is shelter for homeless population of City Howrah. In the urban cities like Howrah & Kolkata mainly migrated people, daily labour, rickshaw & hand cart puller, beggar lives besides rich person. They came in costly cities for livelihood, and to earn money or for job, some of them came with their family, children etc. women are also here for working as maid servant in ‘Babur Bari’ –the rich man’s house. These population can earn money for living and for two time meal, but unable to making an arrangement of a shelter in urban cities. So, spend their life in open sky with children, women family, or in front of closed shops, go-downs, railway and bus stands, or under a plastic shades & -facing seasonal calamity, winter, rain etc.
Shelter is opened by verdict of honorable Supreme Court of India under “Right to Shelter”. Government gave us permission to run these shelters after conducting a survey. It shows total 3824 homeless people living at Howrah Municipal Corporation area (Total 50 Wards) without any shelter including children & women, the number is shocking and it is increases day by day.
Presently SUPRAVAT runs two shelters for Urban Homeless people in Central Howrah, one for Male and one for Female & Children with the capacity of 100 homeless people. These shelters provide them a secured place for living, with medical help, referral service and protection etc for 24-hrs. They have recreation facilities like T.V and Indoor games.
Out of the scheme SUPRAVAT is giving occasional dress, and taking care their children when they gone for work.
